Eff 206 comparison

Effetre 206R Sunset Rose vs 206 Sunset. Both are a streaky, layered rod, and there isn't too much difference. The original 206 seems to have more orange, but overall, both are pretty variable.
Below, the newer 206R
And the 206 original
And side by side
All of them come out with a warm brownish overtone which is something of s surprise.

Eff 032 verde roseta

Effetre 032 Verde Roseta. A very deep and beautiful green. Very dark. You are going to have to use it thin to appreciate its color. Like stringers for vines. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Eff 262 Powder Pink Comparison

Effete 262 Powder Pink. I have two different batches of powder pink here. One is the old batch, and the rods are more of a grayish Brown than pink, and the new rods are machine pulled and more of a streaky pink colour in the rod. They both come out true to the colour in the rod with the new pink rods being a much better colour.
However, these new machine pulled rods, well at least the ones that I had on my desk, were really shocky. I even tried annealling them, and no difference. You're going to have to preheat these or pull it out into Stringer or work in some manner that doesn't involve getting a big gather of glass, the way I do. The colour is better, if you're looking for a pink, but highly shocky. The older rods are not shocky, but you'd be hard-pressed to call them pink. They are a lovely natural beige brown variation, but not really in the family of pink. πŸ˜‰πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

Eff 267 Calico again

Eff 267 Calico again. I made a large base bead to build a dragon on and I like the pattern so much I just put it aside and made another with a dragon. You can see there's kind of an interesting texture on the glass, because it devitrifies and then you can bring it back but it's still a little textured. I was quite successful in getting these to be mostly not devitrified. More successful actually than I expected to be. The variability is really cool and it comes out really rather different than you would expect from looking at the rod which is purple and yellow. πŸ˜‰πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ‰πŸ‰

Mou again

Effetre Mou ... I keep misspelling this as Mau, Mao, Muo ... sigh. Dragon. πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

update on Mau

So two questions, how does Mau look as a spacer when you don't have the variation so much from the method of working, and how does it look with silver glass?
Just wound off as spacers, it's a pleasant brownish colour with a slightly devitrified core on the side, of a light lavender colour.

With the addition of silver and reduced silver glass, in this case Triton, you get the darkening of the brown, lots of metallic and a reaction from the silver which puts a line around the glass, which is kind of cool.

Cheers

Effetre 267 Calico

Effetre 267 Calico. Calico is a layered cane glass that makes you think it might be EDP plus possibly opal yellow and maybe something else. I have an old batch which is thinner rods and darker in colour, and a newer batch which is fatter rods and lighter in colour. While you can definitely see a difference between the two sets, because it is so multicolored, I don't think it really makes much of a difference. Use it in a way that really shows the different layers. If you just wind spacers out of this, it's not going to be as interestingπŸ˜‰πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜

The color is the bottom set is a little deeper, richer. But it is a very subtle difference based on the inherent variability of it.

random glass of the day

Another mystery glass. Probably another Lauscha. An opaque pink that's just a little on the blue side. It's translucent in the rod, but goes opaque in the kiln, which is a little sad. But it's still a nice colour.πŸ€”☺πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Mystery Pink

Today's mystery glass is, I believe, a Lauscha pink. The rods are very fat, and it is a a transparent pink that gets a little bit coppery brownish where it's quite thick. But basically it really is a lovely colour. 🀩🀩🀩

Effetre 263 Mou

Effetre 263 Mou. This is a kind of funky glass that is kind of caramely and maybe has a hint of something in it that makes it devitrify. the end result is that you can get a very interesting shaded, slightly matte finish. it's a very interesting glass. not sure how it makes up into just regular spacers, but I can really see doing something sculptural with this. I have two batches here, an old batch and a new batch, but they're functionally the same. I don't really see any difference. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜Š

Random color of the day

Random color of the day. Do you know what this color is?

One of the Effetre opalinos, those much maligned but lovely colors. I think this might be carnelian, but it doesn't appear quite the way I remember it, so I might be wrong. No label, of course!

CiM 623 Cleopatra

CiM 623 Cleopatra. Cleopatra is a super dense, dark purple, best used in applications where you need the colour to really stand up, like twisties and Stringer. With a strong backlight, it's a beautiful colour, but it can wind up looking black if you're not careful. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

CiM 624 African Violet

not sure what I think of this colour. It's a lovely, soft, blue purple, lavender colour. It leans a little to the grayish end of the spectrum. I think I just expected it to have a little bit more oomph. I think it wants to be layered over other colours. You can see that I had a little bit of trouble with it boiling too, but that's probably just me and my super hot torch.

CiM 121 Garnet

CiM 121 Garnet. Easy striking, nice rich colour,. Quite dark. Needs the light to really make it catch fire.πŸ˜€πŸ˜‰

comparison double helix

Double helix comparison. This does not show the colour differences really well, just not enough light. The base colour of the Hyperion light, certainly is a lighter topaz colour. The Phaeton Falls between the Hyperion light and the regular Hyperion. You can see some differences but I can't say if it's just the way you know I've worked a particular piece. The Hyperion seems to have a little bit more purple and rainbow effect in its colours where as the Clio looks more metallic, there might be a bit more colour in the Phaeton too. Sure, if you put them all together, you can pick them apart in terms of differences. But if you've got a big mass of them, and you're trying to figure out how can I substitute this for that, maybe you probably can use Hyperion or the Clio interchangeably. Notwithstanding, of course, whatever else you add to it or do with it or encase or Etc. Did that help? Not in the slightest. :-) πŸ˜€πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ€©

Double helix Iris

Double helix iris, which looks exactly how you'd expect a glass called Iris to look. It reduces to an amazing rainbow effect, like Carnival Glass. 🀩🀩🀩

The unworked rod is black, but if you get it really thin you can see that it is a magenta-like purple. Reduce it for the rainbow effect, remember to let it cool before you reduce it.

Double Helix Phaeton

Double Helix Phaeton. Ok, not sure I can tell the difference between the Phaeton, the Hyperion and the Clio. πŸ˜‰

which is not to say that they all aren't amazingly spectacular!!!
